The old socket, rotary switch and cord set works and shows no electrical issues. I’ve left the worn socket cover intact for purist collectors. The base switch clicks with confidence. Presented for Your Consideration. Cast brass maiden in Victorian / Nouveau hair-style and period dress embraces a torch stand that supports a vintage crackled shade in amber glass. The shade seems free of cracks and noticeable chippings and barely shows minor wear from use. The base figure has great floral details and is absent damage and obvious defects. All electric parts have been updated. The heavy cast brass shade holder appears to be newer and I replaced one screw in the back for an improved shade fit. From the side, the shade looks slightly askew but appears level, complementary and attractive from the front. A control switch is attached to the cord approximately 6 inches away from the figure base. It clicks with confidence and operates free of hesitancy. A 15 watt bulb was used in the pictures. An outstanding and rare find indeed. A female fighter in sparse functional attire wielding a mighty blade and perhaps once a banner now lost in the past, as discussed below. Befitting a fearless warrior, she is bare breasted to allow unencumbered armed movement and wears her hair up in a classical style. Parts of her legs are covered in strips of pleated fabric anchored by an Amazonian belt, again providing ample air flow and unrestricted movement. She stands firmly planted on a tiered rectangular base. A serpentine lamp stem winds its way behind her, in excellent condition, firmly attached to her back. It ends above her in a metal floral socket cover, original socket with a fitter shade holder and crowned by a beautiful petite vintage art glass shade with flowing colors and pattern. Her features are fine and expertly rendered. Some surface loss is present. The figure’s left hand is shaped to grasp an object, most likely a flag or banner post. Pulled and sculpted hot glass would also make an interesting medium for this purpose. The fabric covered wire is without a break and the old plug looks to be in good condition, with the paper cover still intact and in remarkably fine shape. The lamp is in good working order and all parts appear to be original and solidly assembled despite the passage of nearly a century. It features 4 unusual “up-turned” corners of the base like the snout of a hognose snake. The delicate collection of floral wonders incised onto the base surface have been seen before as decorative physical extensions atop old bridge lamps and table lights. The lamp base is structurally sound and the surface has mellowed to a beautiful bronze finish. There are traces of rust on the surface and underneath the base. The column is both ribbed and amorphous in shape. The 1/2 inch 1/8 IP nipple on top is perfect to mount the rest of the lamp hardware as the lamp is presently absent all electric parts. Unused since the update, it has been sitting in storage for over 15 years. Although new, the sockets have been affected by the passage of time and the pull chains do not move. A spectacle of contrasts in full display between the metal base and the glass shade, compares dark against light, color versus abyss and mortality in the light of immutability, seemingly scaled in geologic time. A female figure in reclining pose casts eyes skyward past an oblong moon with alabaster ambitions. The figure base is in excellent condition less some surface wear commensurate with age. A lovely green patina has developed within the crevices and complements the shade colors nicely. I’ve updated all electric parts including a socket with a cutting-edge design, a low-profile rotary switch and a black fabric cord with a right-angled plug. The base is protected with a felt pad. Height (base to shade top) – 15 inches. Depth – 4 1/2. Weight – 4 lb 7 oz. Height – 8 1/2. Depth – 3 1/2. Width – 4 1/2. I made the art glass shade in my Seattle studio around 2008 but finished it to fit this lamp base today. I drilled the opening and hand-ground it to fit snugly onto the lamp’s shade holder and its 4 small tabs. The glass can be rotated to present different faces. A 60 watt equivalent LED bulb was used in the pictures and will accompany the lamp. An inexpensive LED-compatible electric dimmer will best optimize the lamp’s color changing capabilities. The defect neither hampers lamp performance nor is easily seen unless sought after. The harp is large and without bend. The socket is intact but untested as the wire’s been cut.
