These concepts are beautifully cast in this elephant lamp with stacks of structures atop its back that appear in the likeness of temples or pagodas. The intelligent beast is unusually animated and stands upon an exquisitely rendered and tiered platform that takes on the appearance of cushions or a stylized foundation. Cast as a single piece of iron, this heavy lamp has aged to a delicious chocolate and cinnamon finish and shows neither damage nor substantive wear. The old socket seems slightly bent but that is an easy fix. It works with what I perceive as a half-second delay. I don’t know why and I have not pursued the apparent quirk which I sometimes see with very old lamps.
