The intelligent beast is unusually animated and stands upon an exquisitely rendered and tiered platform that takes on the appearance of cushions or a stylized foundation. Cast as a single piece of iron, this heavy lamp has aged to a delicious chocolate and cinnamon finish and shows neither damage nor substantive wear. The old socket seems slightly bent but that is an easy fix. It works with what I perceive as a half-second delay. I don’t know why and I have not pursued the apparent quirk which I sometimes see with very old lamps.
