This lamp definitely passes the “fun threshold, ” featuring a pair of Cockatoos astride a copper torchiere style lamp. The lamp’s been rewired and fitted with a vintage socket (similar to the original, which was shot) which takes a 3-way bulb. Typically these bulbs come in a combination of 30, 70, and 100 wattages, meaning that each time you turn the key, one of those wattages comes into play. If you choose to use some other type of bulb, you’ll turn the key and nothing will happen, then your bulb will illuminate on the next turn, and then it will go off on the next turn. It will take two turns to get your bulb lit again. In other words, not exactly a deal-breaking inconvenience. On the other hand, the convenience of having the option of 3 levels of light is special. You can use the lamp as a subtle, “mood” illuminator, or crank it up to the highest level and light up the room. Of course all the light goes up, and this suggests that the highest impact will be when the lamp is placed close to a wall, so you get that “V” of light going up the wall. The “cups” behind the cockatoos are made of brown bakelite (I think), and marked USA. They’re in excellent condition, perhaps never having been used as planters. I’d love to see a couple of cacti planted in these! The copper finish (over brass) was originally lacquered, and the lacquer is slightly compromised in some areas. Guaranteed to be a conversation starter, and something your friends will envy you for, and isn’t that one life’s pleasures? ! Measurements: 16 inches high, with the base being around 8 inches across. With the wingspan, about 9 inches.
