Vintage Set of 2 MCM Aqua Art Glass Lamps, Wood & Metal Base with Linen Shades 36
This is a beautiful pair of midcentury, art glass, table lamps. In alternating swirls of opaque-and-translucent turquoise stripes, the teardrop-shaped glass rests on a round, brass base and features a rosewood neck with brass fittings. Both lamps come with their original, ecru-linen shades – tall, tapered cylinders very characteristic of the period. Overall, the lamps are in good vintage condition with wear consistent with their age and use; the original, unlacquered metal has oxidized with a rich, bronze-like patina. The shades have a few scuff marks, spots, and some areas of yellowing on the interior; there is no evidence of cracking to the linings. Because the original wiring was frayed, both lamps have been rewired and have new, 8 lamp harps (original finials remain). I can find no identifying labels or maker’s marks. From the base to the bottom of the socket, each lamp base measures approximately 24″Hx8″ in diameter at the widest point. The lamp shades each measure about 16″Hx12″ in diameter at the top & 14in diameter at the bottom. Overall, each lamp measures approximately 36″Hx14″ in diameter. It’s unusual to have a matched set of this caliber in this condition with the original shades. They are ready to take pride of place on a modernist buffet, flanking a sofa, or on your nightstands.
